Can you teach a dog to swim?

Well she can swim, but she is just not very graceful about it. When she is swimming to the ball it looks like she is trying to climb out of the water so there is a lot of splash and so when she finally makes it to the ball she can't find it because of all the splashing. Eventually she does find it and she swims back with it just fine. She also is very good about waiting for Rob to tell her to get the ball instead of just jumping in. My dad tells me that my grandfather (Gran Joe) actually taught a dog to swim when he was growing up, I wish he could remember how he did that.
